Position Summary

The Senior Director of Facilities, Maintenance, and Engineering ensures Empower’s facilities operate efficiently to support the delivery of high-quality, affordable medications. This role leads engineering, sustainability, and maintenance initiatives, fostering a safe, compliant, and innovative environment that advances global healthcare access.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversees the design, maintenance, and optimization of all facilities, utilities, and equipment, ensuring compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, and safety standards while maintaining a state of inspection readiness.
  • Leads the development and execution of strategic capital projects, including facility expansions, equipment upgrades, and infrastructure improvements, to support organizational growth and operational excellence.
  • Develops and implements preventive and predictive maintenance programs to maximize equipment reliability, minimize downtime, and enhance overall operational efficiency.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality assurance, and regulatory affairs, to integrate engineering solutions that improve productivity, sustainability, and compliance.
  • Manages energy usage, environmental controls, and sustainability initiatives to optimize resource utilization and reduce the facility's environmental footprint while supporting long-term operational goals.

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to remain in a stationary position for a significant amount of the workday and frequently use their hands and fingers to handle or feel to access, input, and retrieve information from the computer and other office productivity devices.  The employee is regularly required to move about the office and around the corporate campus. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Strong leadership, strategic planning, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to foster collaboration, adapt to dynamic challenges, and communicate effectively across all organizational levels.
  • Extensive knowledge of cGMP, FDA regulations, and industry standards related to facility operations and engineering, with proficiency in computerized maintenance management systems, energy management tools, and compliance-driven project management.

Experience and Qualifications
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in facilities management, engineering, or maintenance within a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or similarly regulated environment, with at least 10 years in a leadership role overseeing multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, facilities management, or a related technical field; Master’s degree in business administration, engineering management, or a relevant discipline is preferred.
  • Certified Facility Manager (CFM) preferred; Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred; Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification preferred; Project Management Professional (PMP) certification strongly preferred; Certified Energy Manager (CEM) preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience leveraging AI in daily work to drive efficiency, solve problems, and enhance decision-making—adept at integrating AI-powered solutions into all workflows.
