Position Summary:

The Director, Sales Compensation Design & Operations serves as a strategic leader responsible for governance, operational execution, financial integrity, and scalable compensation administration across Empower’s hyper-growth 503A and 503B environment. This role owns incentive design support, commission operations, audit readiness, forecasting accuracy, and compensation system governance while aligning sales incentives with revenue performance, operational capacity, and financial planning objectives. Leveraging AI as a force multiplier, the Director improves forecasting speed, payout accuracy, operational scalability, and executive visibility through automation, predictive analytics, and intelligent validation frameworks. The position partners closely with Sales, Finance, HR, and Executive Leadership to strengthen compensation governance, reduce operational risk, and enable sustainable growth. Success requires P80–P90 talent demonstrating strategic thinking, execution rigor, learning agility, enterprise ownership, and transformational operational leadership.

Responsibilities:

Governance, Audit & Risk Control

  • Audit Governance: Own enterprise accountability for commission accuracy through structured validation frameworks, multi-system reconciliation processes, and scalable audit-ready operational controls supporting compensation integrity across complex organizational structures. Implement AI-enabled monitoring capabilities, automated exception management, and governance standards that proactively identify risks, strengthen reporting accuracy, improve compliance alignment, and ensure compensation operations remain transparent, reliable, and operationally scalable within a highly regulated business environment.
  • Risk Mitigation: Design and implement compensation audit architecture validating calculations, process adherence, data integrity, and operational compliance across incentive programs and financial workflows. Develop predictive monitoring frameworks, AI-supported anomaly detection, and standardized governance procedures that improve operational visibility, reduce financial exposure, accelerate issue resolution, and strengthen executive confidence in compensation reporting, payout accuracy, and enterprise control effectiveness.
  • Control Frameworks: Establish enterprise governance controls, approval structures, workflow standards, and change management protocols protecting compensation integrity while supporting operational agility and scalable organizational growth. Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Sales, HR, Compliance, and Technology teams to strengthen process discipline, improve policy adherence, and ensure compensation operations align with evolving business priorities, financial objectives, and enterprise governance requirements.

Compensation Operations & System Architecture

  • Systems Leadership: Own the design, optimization, and operational performance of compensation systems, tools, and supporting technologies ensuring scalability, reliability, and seamless integration across CRM, ERP, HRIS, and financial platforms. Lead modernization initiatives focused on workflow automation, data synchronization, and AI-supported operational efficiencies that improve payout accuracy, accelerate processing timelines, and strengthen enterprise reporting capabilities supporting rapid organizational growth.
  • Data Integrity: Ensure enterprise-wide compensation data synchronization through scalable validation checkpoints, reconciliation controls, and standardized operational governance processes maintaining a trusted single source of truth. Implement AI-driven validation workflows, automated reporting structures, and integrated data management practices that improve operational transparency, reduce manual intervention, and strengthen financial confidence in compensation reporting and incentive administration activities.
  • Workflow Automation: Engineer scalable compensation workflows and automated operational processes that reduce administrative burden, improve processing efficiency, and support enterprise growth objectives. Leverage AI-enabled automation technologies, advanced reporting tools, and integrated system capabilities to strengthen operational consistency, improve service delivery, and enable compensation operations to scale effectively within a rapidly evolving and highly regulated business environment.

Financial Modeling & Strategic Partnership

  • Expense Forecasting: Own enterprise commission expense modeling including forecasting, accrual management, budgeting alignment, and scenario planning supporting financial discipline and strategic growth initiatives. Develop predictive financial models and AI-enhanced analytical capabilities that improve forecasting precision, strengthen executive visibility into compensation costs, and enable proactive financial decision-making aligned with organizational performance objectives and operational capacity constraints.
  • Strategic Alignment: Partner closely with Sales FP&A, Finance, and Revenue leadership to align compensation assumptions with revenue forecasts, operational plans, and enterprise financial strategies. Provide scalable analytical frameworks, predictive insights, and scenario modeling capabilities supporting leadership decisions related to compensation investment, sales performance, profitability management, and sustainable business growth across evolving market conditions.
  • Executive Insights: Deliver executive-level analytical insights quantifying tradeoffs between growth objectives, compensation costs, sales productivity, and operational capacity across enterprise incentive programs. Utilize advanced analytics, AI-driven forecasting methodologies, and financial scenario planning tools to improve strategic visibility, strengthen leadership decision-making, and support scalable compensation strategies aligned with long-term organizational priorities and financial performance expectations.

Compensation Design & Strategic Evolution

  • Plan Optimization: Continuously evaluate compensation plans, incentive structures, and operational performance metrics to ensure alignment with enterprise strategy, financial constraints, and operational realities. Utilize AI-supported analytics, behavioral performance insights, and financial modeling capabilities to identify improvement opportunities, strengthen plan effectiveness, and support sustainable sales performance outcomes within a highly dynamic growth environment.
  • Design Evolution: Support future compensation redesign initiatives through performance analysis, financial scenario modeling, stakeholder alignment, and operational feasibility assessments. Partner cross-functionally with Sales, HR, Finance, and Executive Leadership to develop scalable compensation strategies balancing organizational growth objectives, operational capacity, cost management, and long-term financial sustainability.
  • Performance Alignment: Ensure compensation structures drive behaviors aligned with operational execution, financial performance, customer outcomes, and sustainable business growth objectives. Develop governance mechanisms, incentive effectiveness frameworks, and analytical reporting capabilities that improve leadership visibility into compensation performance while strengthening accountability, operational discipline, and enterprise alignment across evolving sales and operational strategies.

Artificial Intelligence & Advanced Analytics

  • AI Validation: Deploy AI-driven validation technologies detecting anomalies, reducing operational errors, and strengthening payout accuracy across enterprise compensation operations. Develop scalable monitoring frameworks, automated reconciliation processes, and predictive risk identification capabilities that improve operational reliability, enhance governance effectiveness, and support faster resolution of compensation discrepancies within complex operational environments.
  • Predictive Modeling: Build predictive analytical models forecasting commission expense, sales performance outcomes, incentive effectiveness, and behavioral responses across compensation programs. Leverage advanced analytics, machine learning methodologies, and integrated operational data to improve forecasting precision, strengthen executive planning capabilities, and support proactive management of compensation-related financial and operational risks.
  • Analytical Intelligence: Leverage advanced analytics and AI-supported reporting capabilities to generate actionable business insights improving governance, forecasting accuracy, operational efficiency, and executive decision-making. Develop scalable dashboards, performance indicators, and analytical frameworks providing leadership with transparent visibility into compensation operations, financial exposure, sales productivity, and enterprise growth performance.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Deep expertise in sales compensation governance, operations, and financial modeling.
  • Advanced analytical capabilities with the ability to translate complex compensation structures into clear insights.
  • Strong understanding of data integration across CRM, ERP, HRIS, and financial systems.
  • Experience leveraging AI and advanced analytics to automate processes and improve decision-making.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Analytics, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in sales compensation, sales operations, or related roles.
  • 5+ years of experience in FP&A, financial modeling, or commission expense forecasting.
  • Proven experience leading compensation governance, audit, and operations in complex environments.
  • Experience with compensation management platforms (e.g., Xactly) strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success partnering with Sales, Finance, and executive leadership.
  • Experience building teams, implementing scalable systems, and driving operational transformation.
