Position Summary:

The Director, Accounting serves as a strategic finance leader responsible for strengthening accounting operations, financial integrity, compliance governance, and scalable reporting capabilities across Empower’s hyper-growth 503A and 503B manufacturing environment. This role owns enterprise accounting processes, close optimization, audit readiness, financial controls, and operational accounting transformation while integrating financial, operational, and regulatory data into accurate reporting frameworks supporting executive decision-making. Leveraging AI as a force multiplier, the Director improves reporting speed, analytical quality, risk visibility, and operational scalability through automation, advanced analytics, and modern accounting technologies. The position partners closely with Finance, Operations, Compliance, Quality, and Executive Leadership to protect financial accuracy, strengthen regulatory resilience, and support sustainable growth. Success requires P80–P90 talent demonstrating strategic thinking, execution rigor, learning agility, enterprise ownership, and transformational leadership capabilities.

Responsibilities:

Enterprise Accounting Leadership

  • Accounting Governance: Lead enterprise accounting operations across multiple business functions while strengthening financial governance, reporting accuracy, operational controls, and regulatory compliance within a rapidly scaling manufacturing environment. Develop scalable accounting frameworks, AI-supported reconciliation processes, and standardized financial procedures that improve close efficiency, strengthen financial integrity, reduce operational risk, and support executive decision-making across complex enterprise operations.
  • Close Optimization: Oversee enterprise close processes, financial consolidations, account reconciliations, and reporting timelines while implementing automation strategies and AI-enabled workflows that improve accuracy, visibility, and operational scalability. Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Operations, and Compliance leadership to streamline accounting activities, strengthen reporting discipline, and ensure timely delivery of accurate financial information supporting strategic growth and operational execution.
  • Financial Integrity: Establish enterprise accounting standards, reporting controls, and financial governance frameworks ensuring consistency, transparency, and compliance across operational and financial processes. Lead initiatives focused on process harmonization, policy standardization, and automation enablement while improving audit readiness, reducing manual dependencies, and strengthening enterprise accountability in a highly regulated and rapidly evolving business environment.

Operational Accounting & Process Transformation

  • Process Modernization: Lead accounting transformation initiatives focused on workflow modernization, automation enablement, process optimization, and scalable operational accounting practices supporting enterprise growth objectives. Design future-state accounting workflows integrating AI-driven capabilities, system enhancements, and standardized controls that improve operational efficiency, reduce cycle times, strengthen compliance alignment, and support enterprise-wide financial visibility.
  • Workflow Optimization: Drive enterprise accounting workflow assessments to identify process inefficiencies, control gaps, operational bottlenecks, and reporting inconsistencies impacting financial performance and operational scalability. Implement corrective actions, standardized operating procedures, and AI-supported automation strategies that improve process reliability, strengthen operational discipline, and enhance financial reporting effectiveness across multiple accounting functions and operational environments.
  • Control Enhancement: Develop and maintain scalable accounting control structures, governance standards, and monitoring frameworks supporting financial accuracy, regulatory compliance, and operational resilience. Utilize advanced analytics, automated validation tools, and AI-supported exception monitoring to proactively identify financial risks, strengthen reporting reliability, and improve organizational responsiveness to operational, regulatory, and audit-related requirements.

AI, Systems & Reporting Strategy

  • Automation Strategy: Lead implementation and optimization of accounting technologies, AI-enabled automation capabilities, and reporting systems supporting scalable financial operations and enterprise decision-making. Partner with Finance, IT, and Data teams to modernize accounting workflows, improve data accessibility, strengthen reporting quality, and accelerate executive insight through integrated financial systems and advanced analytical capabilities.
  • Reporting Excellence: Establish enterprise reporting frameworks, KPI strategies, and executive dashboards providing leadership with accurate visibility into financial performance, operational trends, compliance exposure, and business risks. Develop automated reporting solutions and AI-enhanced analytics that improve decision speed, increase reporting consistency, and support proactive financial management within a complex, highly regulated operating environment.
  • Data Governance: Strengthen enterprise accounting data governance, financial system integrity, and reporting controls supporting accurate financial analysis and executive decision-making. Develop scalable validation processes, reconciliation standards, and monitoring frameworks ensuring financial information remains reliable, auditable, and aligned with evolving operational, compliance, and organizational reporting requirements.

Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management

  • Compliance Leadership: Partner with Compliance, Quality, Legal, and Operations leadership to ensure accounting practices, financial controls, and reporting frameworks align with regulatory obligations and enterprise governance standards. Support organizational readiness for audits, regulatory reviews, and compliance assessments while maintaining disciplined accounting operations that protect financial integrity and organizational credibility.
  • Risk Oversight: Conduct enterprise-level risk assessments focused on accounting operations, financial reporting exposure, operational dependencies, and compliance vulnerabilities impacting organizational performance. Utilize predictive analytics, automated monitoring tools, and financial trend analysis to identify emerging risks, evaluate mitigation strategies, and strengthen enterprise preparedness within a dynamic and highly regulated operating environment.
  • Audit Readiness: Lead enterprise audit preparation activities, accounting documentation standards, and financial control testing initiatives supporting internal and external audit requirements. Develop scalable governance processes, remediation tracking mechanisms, and standardized reporting protocols that improve audit responsiveness, strengthen organizational accountability, and reinforce confidence in enterprise financial operations and reporting practices.

Team & Leadership Development

  • Talent Development: Build and lead a high-performing accounting organization capable of supporting hyper-growth operations, financial transformation initiatives, and increasing enterprise complexity. Recruit, mentor, and develop talent demonstrating analytical rigor, accountability, operational understanding, and continuous learning agility while fostering a culture centered on operational excellence, innovation, and financial discipline.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Lead highly complex cross-functional initiatives involving Finance, Operations, IT, Compliance, Quality, and Executive Leadership while aligning enterprise priorities, operational requirements, and financial governance objectives. Translate strategic business initiatives into scalable accounting processes, implementation plans, and operational controls supporting long-term organizational growth and sustainable financial performance.
  • Operational Leadership: Establish operating rhythms, governance frameworks, performance expectations, and accountability structures supporting scalable accounting operations and enterprise execution. Implement AI-supported reporting cadences, workflow governance standards, and continuous improvement methodologies that strengthen organizational alignment, improve execution quality, and position Accounting as a strategic enterprise partner driving financial integrity and operational scalability.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Deep GAAP expertise applied in regulated, high-volume manufacturing environments with complex inventory, costing, and compliance requirements.
  • Proven ownership of ERP architecture, implementation, and optimization at enterprise scale.
  • Demonstrated use of AI, automation, and analytics to improve control, speed, and insight.
  • Strong executive communication skills with the ability to translate technical accounting into actionable business decisions.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 7 years of technical accounting experience, including 5+ years leading accounting organizations in high-growth, multi-entity environments.
  • Proven experience operating in regulated industries such as healthcare, life sciences, pharmaceuticals, or FDA-adjacent manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated ownership of enterprise-scale accounting operations, including close, financial reporting, internal controls, and audit readiness under growth pressure.
  • Direct experience with inventory, WIP, batch costing, valuation, and variance analysis in complex manufacturing or distribution settings.
  • Experience leading or co-owning ERP architecture, implementation, or major transformation with accountability for outcomes, data integrity, and adoption.
  • Track record of using automation, advanced analytics, and AI-enabled tools to improve close speed, control effectiveness, and decision insight.
  • Experience building organizations from the ground up, including organizational design, hiring, talent development, and succession planning.
  • Exceptional ability to partner with executives, translating technical accounting and regulatory complexity into clear business decisions.
  • Active CPA required; Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field strongly preferred.
